Temporarily Closing the Art (Etsy) Store

Unfortunately I have decided to close my Art Shop (the etsy store) for approximately half a year. I estimate reopening in mid-summer of this year (2012). Time frames are uncertain and I may open sooner or later depending. This means, you need to keep tabs right here on the Art Blog to find out when things change!

Right now I just do not have the time to make new items or even keep up with adding sale items to my store. School is my main focus. I am taking another 6 classes to get my second associates degree this May and one step closer to my Bachelors Degree (approx. 1 more year of school). I also want to focus on my drawing a little more. I am going to be an Aunt as well, this March, so my focuses are elsewhere.

Technically the shop will still be online but nothing will be up for sale for quite some time.

Just because the store is closed, doesn't mean I'm done with art or this blog! Stay tuned my loyal fans. :)

I've decided to start using Flickr again, after many months of debate. I've also decided to keep things fresh and to only upload from 2011 and beyond, rather than uploading old images from years ago. I'm in no way a photographer. I don't profess to be one. I'm an amateur, a hobbiest. I really enjoy editing more than I do taking the pictures. It's another form of "creative outlet" for me. I'd still much rather pick up a pen and draw or make some vector art.

Some how, by word of mouth, my "hobby" was miss-communicated down the long road of "he-said-she-said" and when I agreed to help take photos for an event, the person soliciting me thought I was a photographer. NO. WRONG. I never said that. I just agreed to help. Either way, they were pleased with the outcome, pictures and all, but I never EVER want to take photos for an event (or for anyone at all) ever again.

Photography is a simple pleasure for me, and I never want it to become work. NEVER, EVER, AGAIN.

A much needed rant. /end venting session. :P

Coffee = Life Juice

It seems like I've been neglecting to update this again. Bad habits die hard, though really I haven't been able to do much art at all in the past few months. It's sad but true. Life just gets in the way sometimes. I have to admit, I am going through drawing-withdraw. Recently I jacked-up my wrist, and I'm still not sure how, which kept me from doing much of anything for a week. Some say its the onset of carpal tunnel. I say, its crap luck. School doesn't help much in the time-department either. Yeah, I received an associates for graphic design already this past May, but I'm working on another associates (which I will have next May) and my Bachelors in Interactive Media (which I should have in Jan. 2013). So, I'm super busy, again..

I have done some graphics over the summer and even this week. I've been commissioned to work on the website, appbucket.net which is still under construction. Once they have the site up and running I will post links to my finished work. I do the graphics, they code. In turn, they are coding for my site too! I'm giving it a total face-lift. Once it is finished I will post links too. You can catch a preview of both sites on my facebook fan page, artviavictoria.

I came to the conclusion a few days ago that I finally need to sit down and draw a comic book. I have always wanted to draw and publish my own comic, ever since middle school! Now I think its time I sit down and do it. Character and story development is currently underway. it is a slow and tedious process but I'm hoping it will be well worth it. It's a dream and a goal. Time to achieve it! I'm not sure if I will post any doodle-previews or not. We will see once I get to that point!

Commissions

It's time to share the final products from my recent 2 commissions.

First I have a hand-made clay ring with a Butterfly charm in the center.
Used: Sculpey Clay, up-cycled necklace charm, acrylic paint, gloss, ring-base

Next is a personalized coin-bank.
Used: Ceramic Cat bank-base, Acrylic paint, Gloss, Ribbon, Gems.

Both of which were incredibly fun to make. :)

I am currently in the process of creating 3 new jewelry pieces as well as a candle holder set, which should all be posted for sale within the next few days.

Art Ahoy!

Once again, it has been a while! I've been working incredibly hard on developing a solid portfolio and finishing up with college! I am an official college graduate now, with an Associates degree in Graphic Design! :) I spent the last 2 semesters taking 20 credit hours each to finally get where I am, hence the art-work has been scarce. Now I have a free summer ahead to drown in art, and I plan on taking advantage of my time! This fall I will be continuing school for an associates in Photography graphic design (which I will have next June) and a Bachelors in Interactive Media. :)

I am working on getting new and awesome creations up in my Etsy store. I am also open to commission work! I currently have 2 commissions this week and I am thrilled! I can't wait to get into my art groove again. (www.etsy.com/victorialneely)

I still need to tackle my "to-do" list from my previous post. That will come next week! I will be updating the blog more often too, I realize I go slightly nuts when I don't update often!

This year hasn't been treating my free-time well. Between car wrecks, hospital visits, a cancer scare and surgery, I haven't had much time to do art outside of the classroom. I've decided to type up an artistic/virtual to-do list.

Lots to do.. On top of 6 classes, graduating in May and job hunting, I am one busy woman! But I am always open for graphic work! :) I love to do it! Can't help it! Art is just my thing. Here's a pretty good example, The logo design I recently did for a local auto sales lot that is opening.

Coca-Cola Contest Entry

I stumbles upon an awesome website the other day. eYeka. It is a site where companies post contests for graphics, videos, etc and offer prizes for the art they choose. I got very excited and found a contest I was hyped up for; Coca-Cola. I <3 Coke. It pwns Pepsi. Just saying, personal preference.

I encourage everyone to check out my entry (Abstract Energy) and if you have an account please leave me a comment or vote.

I will most likely be making another entry within the next week. Maybe more if I find the time. It has sparked my creative interest.

My only fear about competing is getting my art work and style stolen by competitors. Today's world is not an honest one and that fear is going to nag at me. Though the upload quality on that website is horrendous! No matter what format I made my image, or size, etc, it comes out severely blotchy. Makes me worry my entry won't be recognized then.Here's to hoping!

Freelance Graphic Artist

After finalizing my first official freelance graphics job I am feeling more confident than ever! With Graduation two months away and my portfolio growing, I feel ready to extend my art reach further.
I consider this a dream come true; a dream I am working hard to maintain and bring into full reality.

I recently made a facebook page for my work. This way I can keep more people up to date on changes and new work as well as keep in contact with potential clients.

This page also contains photo albums full of art, much of which will not be displayed on my website (www.bikku.net). Such as sketches, doodles and random images.

I realize I have been neglecting updating my website as well as this blog. I will be sure to post a blog at least once a week from this day forward (unless something unfortunate arises). I will be working on the site within the next week. It desperately needs content and a face-lift.

A lot has been going on in my life that has been keeping me from working on my art. Thankfully, much of the issues have finally been resolved and I have more time to work and less time to stress.

Website Make-Over - It's a New Year!

Now that I have finished up my fall semester, I can finally update. I have been meaning to type a blog for about a month now but exams popped up and every free second I had was devoted to studying and completing projects! But I successfully completed and passed 6 classes (19 credit hrs) and now have some art-time available. I will be graduating in May, too! :)

Website
I am Redoing the entire website, giving it a more professional approach. The graphics will stay the same, for they reflect me as a person and artist. The links and content are going to be altered and updated. It will be a slow process but it will happen. My portfolio gallery is still up and available!

1st Graphic Job
I am currently working on my very first professional logo design. I was commissioned, showed 2 series of rough designs and am now working on the final product. I am very excited! Once the job is finished I will post images in my portfolio and explain further what the job is.

Unfortunately this is all I have for now. I have been very busy since the holidays just came to pass and I haven't had much art time. I will soon, though! Keep an eye open for more updates!

Now Using Flickr for ALL Major Images / Art

Good news! I finally have all my art galleries up and running on my website! About time, right? I slaved over Adobe Bridge and messing around with codes to be able to get 2 Flash galleries onto my site. It's a lot more time consuming than you'd think. And annoying. So go have a look. I am quite pleased :) I'll be swapping photos around every so often to give the site a bit of lemony-freshness. Don't worry, I'll spam my blog and site updates when it happens.

The Art Online...?
I am slowly uploading images onto my flickr account now of all the artwork I put up for sale. That way when something sells I can still display the items to my curious and slowly growing fan-base. :P Makes me feel good in a way, to be so organized via the internet. LOL. I'm OCD at home AND online. WOOO!

Etsy Update::
Oh yes. It's that time again. The time when I update the store and new goodies pop up and old goodies get a price reduction. YAY! Right? So anyways, I've made several sales in the last month but, alas, no one is leaving feedback! *pout* I assumed they like what they got since I never heard a word since but still... I need to build my good reputation up! So my advice to everyone, Always be sure to leave feedback the moment you get your items. It's good business and customer-seller relations.
There are three new things up for sale as of today and several more to come (hopefully) by the end of the week. Schools been keeping my posting restricted. Not fun.

The first item I have for you is an original painting. Its an abstract of a broken heart. Such a story behind this but I won't bore you with my dark-minded-past. This is an acrylic painting and I am selling the original as a decent price. I won't be making prints or selling duplicates either. It is the one and only. I may end up doing this with a few other pieces. It's not that I don't like this work so I'm just "getting rid of it". It's just some pieces I prefer to be individual and stand alone.

The next item on my list is a cute little button ring I made with vintage buttons. I even made one for myself. :) I just couldn't help myself.

* If anyone has old buttons floating around with no use for them PLEASE donate them to me! I don't have many and I want to keep these buttons made with old buttons, not new store bought ones.

And last but not least, I have a California Sea Shell necklace. This was a fun piece. Its not everyday you have a whole muscle shell to work with that isn't in two pieces! :)
So I figured it would be fun to imitate a pearl and clam shell, even though this is not a clam-shell and would never produce a pearl but the idea produced a pretty end result! lol

That is all my banter and good news for today. I am working on lots of other stuff but that's a whole new post. So keep an eye out for it!!

Sales, Links, Rants and Past Due Updates

My post yesterday was merely a buffer for today's post. More or less, just to make me feel better about not updating and ease my mind for the night. Now, it's time to post and update and fill you all in on what I have been up to and will be up to in the future.

The Blog
Obviously it got a massive face-lift. I made a brand new banner in Adobe Illustrator! I really enjoy that program. I also updated the rest of the profiles colors and styles with the designer on Blogger.net. It all seems to flow and reflect me quite nicely. :) I also changed my boxes around. My site links are to the left, now featuring my flickr account link and my ebay link. You can easily navigate to my older blog posts, the box is located under my links. I enlarged my shop box to display more items, to the right. Also, I have a flickr photo feed at the bottom of the page as well as search bar for my blog and an easy subscribe link, in case you wish to follow my blog. I will also no longer be posting linked images. They will be flat and one size, not clickable. Sorry for those who can't get a great view. This is for security reasons as well.

The Websites
As I stated in the last few posts, I am no longer using my DeviantArt account. The account still exists so I can comment on friends works but I won't be posting my artwork or photos there any longer. Clearly, this is for security reasons.
My personal website, bikku.net, is currently under maintenance and will be roughly until the first week of October. I am insanely busy so when I get to work on it is up in the air. I'm really trying to squeeze in internet time as much as I can. I will be making brand new art and photo galleries for my site to display select pieces under more secure conditions. More watermarks will be used and searches will be minimized. I will also be rotating pieces so there aren't too many up at once.
Depending on when I get my currently crashed Desktop PC up and running again, will determine the images posted on my website. I fear I may have lost all recent images from May through August. It's sad, but it happens. Guess I have to go out and take lots of new pictures!

The Etsy Shop
I haven't posted anything new for sale since July. School kind of took over. Now I have uploaded a few new items and there are more on the way. It's just a matter of time and photo editing, uploading, describing, etc.
The newest line of necklaces I am making are Recycled Bottle Cap Necklaces. These babies are made with a bottle cap base, sculpey clay for fill and details and recycled old jewelry parts! I carefully choose, fix, paint, mold, update all parts of the necklaces to make a brand new, stunning piece! Very individual. ;)

These two bad-boyz are currently for sale in my shop! I am currently working on many more. So keep an eye out!!
I also made a pretty wicked ring, The Nature Ring, out of clay and put it up for sale. It sold the very next day! Don't fret, I shall be making many more rings in the near future. They are so much fun!
Now I just need to find ring bands in bulk.... Pat Catan's failed me thus far...

And now, homework beckons! In the next day or so I will be posting more etsy sale images as well as some art work I have been doing for class!
I also need to start working on a commission. I am the official tester and graphics designer for my dear friends etsy shop, Faye's Fizzies. I currently need to work on some labels, wrapping, and I'm thinking of some cute random graphic ideas :)
I currently have my hands full!

Changes and Updates and Newness - OH MY!

The etsy shop banner got a complete make over! I had a great time playing around in adobe illustrator. I think I am starting to love that program <3 . And obviously I gave the blog a complete make over, New banner and all. I'm very happy with it! Woo hoo! It reflects me more.

I've been working on the art, long and hard for the past week. A new idea popped into my head and I've been crazy-excited to work on it! Bottle Cap necklaces! It speaks for itself but doesn't look like potential trash ;)
Currently 2 are up for sale.

Also made a pretty wicked ring, which sold already! I posted it yesterday! :)
I'm going to be making plenty more in the near future.

I'm planning to give the website some TLC this week. Hopefully. It needs an update fiercely.
More to come later.

Art Hiatus

It has been a while since I've picked up the Art work. This summer has been full of surprises. Unexpected family visits and a sudden drop is my art-mojo has kind of left me high and dry. Though I did work on two different projects over the past month and some odd weeks. I also have a ton of photos to crop and post on dA and Etsy. It's just going to take me a while to get motivated to finish. It will be even worse in a week and a half when I head back to college for 19 credit hours. Time will not be on my side.

Cherry Blossom Bowl
I did this in July for my twin sister. She came to visit for a while from California. I used acrylic paint on a plain white bowl. Light blue outside, black inside. Cherry blossoms all over and on the inside, pink glitter. Many coats of clear gloss to finish up. I really am pleased with it. That's the extent of it. I was working on another candle holder set but I'm not going to post pictures until I am finished. Sadly, the etsy is lacking any traffic..... It has me a bit down but hopefully once I get more items posted it will pick up.

Elements in Art

I have finally completed my candle stick holder project! It didn't take more than a week really, but I tend to get lazy and sit things down and wait days to touch it again. But I spent the whole entirety of Tuesday completing them. And I must say, I'm impressed. They turned out better than I anticipated and I can't wait to make another set! I went through many colors of acrylic paint, many layers of clear gloss varnish, and a chunk of sculpey clay! This was ridiculously fun to do. Actual fun! Shocking! (I have to admit, the Water one with the fish is my favorite!)

Etsy Description of the Element Set.
This is a set of 4 miniature candle stick holders.Four wooden holders, heavily painted with acrylic paint and gloss varnish. Jewelry Up For Grabs On Etsy

I have been very busy lately, trying to get more things finished and posted to Etsy. I didn't get the candle stick holders done yet, like I wanted too, but I did finish 2 pieces of Jewelry. One is a necklace and the other is a pair of earrings. Both of which are up for sale on etsy. I currently have 4 pairs of earrings and 1 necklace for sale in my shop, but much more to come.

New pair of earrings, Rose's n' Hearts. It's a swarovski crystal (not pure) elements infused heart dangling underneath a small swarovski crystal and metal roses. They add some shine and class to the earring wearer. For pierced ears. Not pure metals. Currently going for $10.00.

The necklace is an odd addition. 3 Squares. Another shiney addition to the jewelry list. This is a green Swarovski crystal necklace (not completely pure crysal) with 3 square crystal beads and 4 small, clear, round, crystal dividers. Small silver dividers are placed between all beads for spacing and style. The beads are on a seperate necklace wire attached to silver chain and completed with an easy open clasp. Due to the wire and chain combo, the beads are conveniently stationary. No more slipping around and getting the clasp in the front!
Great for dressy situations where a little shine is better than too much shine. Not an overwhelming color! Currently on sale for $20.00.

I was very excited this past week. I had finally made my first Etsy sale after waiting for a month! I sold my Pink Punk Cat Coin Bank, which was my favorite. It was then I realized just how insanelt pricey USPS shipping really is. This bank was maybe a single pound and It cost me a decent chunk of change to send. I was a little disapointed to have to raise my shipping costs for my items on Etsy. But I can't afford to mail it otherwise. I am jobless! So everyone has to pay for the product and shipping. Shipping isn't a horrid fee, it's average and fair.
I have not recieved a response from the art gallery either, which has me a bit heart broken. I may postpone the First Friday attempt until August now, to accumulate a little more and get in touch with other galleries.

Breaking Out The Paint

I've been keeping the acrylic paints busy in the past couple days. I am currently working on a set of element based candle holders which I think I am going to be adding some clay accents too! I'm excited about this little project. I am almost done with 2 sets of runes. A few more clear varnish coats and I have to make the bags and done.

I call this piece, Broken. A quick play around with acrylic paints. More like experimenting with some of my current feelings and frustrations on paper. It didn't take long, but I actually really like the final product. This is a photo of it, too big to scan. There's a few inches cut off on the edges too so the heart is a smidge bigger and the break is more noticeable. I won't be making prints or copies of this. I may sell the original some day, but not any time soon.

It has inspired me to paint something else soon. An abstract expression with a flower that only the final products image will describe, when I'm done and post it. I blame the incredibly attractive and artistically talented David Bromstad for this sudden urge to paint. I'm addicted to his show on HGTV, Color Splash. He's an incredible interior designer AND he paints, and he is just absolutely brilliant. (Did I mention hot?) -Insert swoon and sigh here-

So far, no word from the art gallery. I'm going to be filling out a First Friday form to get an outdoor space within the week. I really don't want to have an outdoor space, due to the threat of the elements and weather, but beggers can't be choosers.

Art For Sale

Today is my personal Art Sunday! After taking an exhaustive business exam I devoted the remainder of my day to my work, and getting the sites updated. The other day I made a pair of earrings that I just LOVE! I'm contemplating making myself a pair. :)
So far, this is the Etsy Shop update:

New Item up for sale on my Etsy. Pink Crystal Earrings. Currently going for $10.00. The crystals contain Swarovski crystal but are not pure. The metal is also not a pure metal. Though I can make pure metal jewelry upon request. It is just cheaper for me to buy in small bulk the impure metals which may or may not contain nickel. This pair is cute, yet dressy and fashionable. Not too much going on but not boring either.

I should be posting another couple items for sale later this week. I have some works in progress that are just about complete. I am working on 2 sets of runes, sewing some pouches together, painting candle holders and finishing some more jewelry. I may also finish a painting that I have been neglecting if I have the time.

Current dilemma. My Etsy shop has been open for about a month now. Though its had many views, I lack sales even with my low prices. I know this is because I have no sales feedback yet. But if I don't make sales I will never get feedback! I have my shop policies strictly in place and I will follow it all sternly. I am well aware its scary to buy something from a new online seller. I am just like every other artist on Etsy; An artist trying to get my name out there and my art into willing hands. I'm technically a starving artist seeing as I am jobless, going to school and flat broke! LOL... So is life. Art is my passion. I will give it hell until the bitter end.

I call it Peace. A drawing I did this spring was a big hit sales wise when I just started selling. I made several prints and took several orders for this design. But thats when I was doing the sales on Facebook and by word of mouth. On etsy, it has the most views. I'm currently selling prints of this for only $15.00 for a 8x10 inch print. That is until July 1st when all my 8x10's will return to the original $20.00 sales price. I offer a variety of print options and sizes as well as take custom orders for all of my prints.

In other news, I have no heard back from the art gallery I contacted on Friday. I'm hoping for some news this week.

My current adventure; contacting 2nd April (http://www.secondapril.org), a gallery and studio building in Canton, about a possible studio space or gallery show. I am crossing my fingers and hoping they will reply soon. Even if I can't get a full time studio space, I'd like to at least have a spot in their facility for a First Friday show this July 2nd. If that's not possible I will have to apply for an outside space and pray it doesn't rain... I really do not want an outside spot. It will be small and uncomfortable as well as hard to display my work properly. I need walls to hang things up. And so I play the waiting game.

Getting myself out into the art-world as a budding artist is hard work! I've been an art nerd since I was a kid. Art is my life. My passion. Making it my full time job is a dream I want to come true. I never thought I'd get to the point of selling work, but now I am! It's shocking in a sense. I feel accomplished. But not yet fulfilled.
